Blue Dot, Blue Dot, Where Are You? - Denniele's Quilt

I posted a block of this one, but now I"ve gotten permission to post the full quilt and all it's wonderful blooms.  Denniele Bohannan from Louanna Mary Quilt Design made this incredible Blue Dot, Blue Dot Where are you,  quilt designed by Barbara Brackman who has a free BOM - Hospital Sketches  which you can find on facebook.  This one is super sweet.  Two layers of batting, Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Wool, I used a 60 wt Glide thread that just blended wonderfully with everything.  Yep only one color of thread on this beauty. And Denniele won a Blue Ribbon at the Missouri State Fair, congrats Denniele!! Get cozy and get ready for some wonderful pics of this work of art.  Thanks Denniele for letting me quilt for you!

Becky's bright feathered beauty!

I don't think I ever properly shared Becky's big beautiful quilt.  I think I may have shared on Facebook and Instagram.  I try to add more details and mores pics here on the blog.  I just love this quilt, it's big, it's bright it's overflowing with feathers in a bed of wool and cotton.  It's just lucious!

hobbs 80/20 on bottom, wool on top

So  Fine thread top and bottom 

solid white backing - again adds to the lusciousness of this beauty

Quilted pinapple curve on top - 20 I think

Circle 2 ruler on the border - 8 I think 

Simple repetitive ruler work on this this one creating overlapping circles on each square, half in echo only in the white areas give it a different feel doesn't it? Along the seam, the feathers are only on the white side not the printed fabric, I think this gives real dimension to the quilt.  It took Becky and I a few tries back forth to get this point, the collaboration made it better than either of us would have done individually.  In the the border I wanted to bring a similar design but each border was too small, so I treated all three fabrics as one and it worked perfectly.  Finishing off with bead board.  I was just completely smitten by this one.  Great Quilt Becky, thanks for letting me quilt for you!

Rhapsody in Blue - Reveal

Oh boy will you look at this?   Country Quilters of McHenry Quilt guild have been working on this quilt for some time.   Fabrics selected and cut, little block kits made, and came back then trimming, rows and finally a flimsy.  Then guess what happened, that's right I got to quilt this sweet thing!  And quilt I did.  They let me do what I wanted, the only restriction was not too modern.  Ok, but when you leave me unsupervised with a quilt, this is what's gonna happen, some thread is going down!  I had  a lot of fun with this.   There's two layers of batting, Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs wool, glide thread on top, Ivory and two different shades of blue.  The back is a scrumptious cotton Sateen.  Lots of ruler work, lots of free motion feathers and even a little computerized quilting.  The center of all the stars has computerized motif.  It's the same motif on the center medallion star, just a bit bigger.  I gotta say I was  a bit nervous doing the quilting for the raffle quilt. The guild didn't have a quilt show and this is the main income source for the year.  But I think it turned out great.  

Now this beauty can be yours raffle tickets will be available very soon, they're getting printed now.  We'll have a few ways to purchase the tickets.  If you're going to the Chicago Quilt Festival in Mar, we will be selling tickets on  Mar 28 and Mar 30.  I'll be there on Mar 28 the morning selling tickets and the afternoon white gloving. I'd love to meet you, stop by and say hi!  They will also be available on Facebook for sale soon.  And of course you contact me directly.  I'll have all the details on the cost of the tickets and the date of the drawing very soon.   You can bet I'll be buying a few, I would love to have this hanging in my entry way!!

I have a group of us who have been getting together for this for years now, we all look forward to this time of year.  We make quilts for H2H and for local needs. This year we're going to do it a little differently. We're going to make quilts for H2H and for the care givers this year.   

It must be difficult at times to be a caregiver for people who are the sickest, families are distraught and they must keep their chin up and be the bright light that these families may not have otherwise. So I'd like to give them a quilty hug as they need to self care and the job can be hard and emotionally taxing. If you know of an excellent care giver that could use a quilt to wrap in and let the world slip away for just a few minutes so they can care for our loved ones, send me a private message. The group of us will collect them all and determine at the end of the session. So come on and join us! Let me know if your in. We'll have our first get together in Mar, dates to come shortly, need to pick patterns and fabric and get some quilt kits cut and ready to go!

Mill Girls BOM is going home

It's time, this beauty is being shipped back to CA where she belongs.  I'm gonna miss this one!  We did spend some quality time together.  I managed to finally get some pics in natural light, just love when the sun is pretty low and shadows from the quilting show up so nicely.  You have to forgive my lumpy yard....there wasn't much natural light left and I wanted to get a few pics so no time to look for a flatter spot.  The quilt is nice and flat, it's my yard that isn't!

Cable feathers look great with the fabric which has an winding feathery pattern.  First time doing Cable Feathers, used Deborah Poole's templates that I got from MQX, works like a dream

A simple feather in this border to mimic the fabric, beadboard in the small borders is carried through the larger borders as well.   

The star points almost look like wings don't they?  feathers feathers feathers!!!

Simple quilting on the pieced blocks brings out their beauty.  Continuous curve and feathers in the background.

Nothing but pure feathered fun!

• Batting:  Hobbs wool (don't you love the quilting definition?)
• Thread:  Glide 40wt on Top, Glide 60 wt in the bobbin (love these two together)
• Ruler work and free motion feathers - lots and lots of feathers!

The Force was strong today in my sewing studio

I love baby quilts, they are so fun. I ***almost*** went out and purchased pink, purple and grey fabric for this because I didn't think I had the right shades. But just as I was ready to head upstairs and put my shoes on, I looked at my stash and "said just go find it in there, it's there" And sure enough, I love the colors, all from my stash and scrap bins. Mama has lavender and grey as her colors for the baby's room. Daddy loves star wars. I thought this was a nice meet in the middle quilt. And I finally learned a version of ribbon candy (which I've wanted to do for over 5 years). LOL I practiced doodling ribbon candy all week at work in mtgs and at my desk, but I think it paid off! Hobbs 80/20 batting, nice soft minky backing and glide thread on top. Hope the little mama likes it. Ahhhhhhh so good to only have the binding left.

Down to the wire

I'm feeling the pressure, I can do this, I can make this happen. I may have a to take a sick day....but we'll see.  Shower date is Mar 4, I have two more Saturday's to get this baby quilted.  I want to learn to do ribbon candy.  My plan to master ribbon candy will be print out about a 50 diamonds and doodling any time I can. Mtgs at work, when they get  a little boring and slow (they're talkers at the office....) I'll just pull out a diamond or two, give it a go.  I'll print some out that I like already done as well, try tracing them, try getting a little muscle memory going.  I can do this, I just know it.  If I can't get this down by Saturday or don't feel brave enough to try on the baby's first quilt, I'll substitute a different fill. But it's gonna happen this year, this is the year I learn to do ribbon candy!  So sweet little Emma's top is on the frame and started.  I can't wait to meet her.

And in case anything happens at all, I've got a back up quilt.  This is a proper finish, binding and all!!  This one has Hobbs Wool batting (I had a scrap big enough for a baby quilt, that's the good thing about getting the king size rolls), HabandDash Glide 60wt thread on top and in bobbin.  One color thread, white, and it looks great, really blends in well everywhere.

Bundle of Love Panel - Northcott fabrics

I just heard my Old Friends was accepted in the MQX New England show, kinda exciting, but this means I ****REALLY**** need to get the binding on.  Binding and label by March 15 so I can ship by March 20.  I can do it.  Not sure how, but I'm certain it will come to me.  Hoping the force will stay with me even after Emma's quilt it done.
