DWM and FMQ Challenge

Wow, July gone already?  I swear it just started, man summers go so fast don't they?

I finished quilting the Urban 9 Patch, I thnk Lily is going to like it.  Its' got some nice cozy pink fleece on the back.  I used Quilters dream, dream puff batting, so fine thread on top and bottom line in the bobbin.

And the Free Motion Quilting Challenge, I had just enough fleece left over at the bottom to get this months challenge done.  I used a different fill in each section.  The print on the top is pretty crazy but you can see the quilting better on the back.  I would like to try this one again with the same fill in each segement, I really like the technique.

I finally worked on my dear jane blocks, 8 of them done, that's a record for me :)

We're heading to sunny funny Florida this week.  Can you take scissors and needles on a plane?  I was thinking of working on the hexies on the plane, just not sure if you they'll let you on with scissors.  Get this I"m gonna go para-sailing while I'm out.  Well sitting here in my mid west home I can say, I hope I don't chicken out :)  Definitely snorkeling, I know I won't chicken out on that one.

DWM Monday

Well I got a couple more Dear Jane blocks done.  I'm not real happy with A-3, but we'll see if I do it over or not.

Dear Jane Blocks
I finished my Carpenter's Star for Judy's Feather tutorial.  This is going to be a table cloth for my kitchen table which is a big square.  I love the chicken's in the fabric, I thought that was appropriate for feathers :)

Carpenters Star
But I can't quilt it because I have this on the frame.  I have 3.5 rows done and 3/4 of the borders. Getting closer :)

At least there are some feathers in there.

Whooping it up on Friday

Slow week this week recovering from surgery, but almost back at full capacity!  I think I'll be able to sew for a few hours today, at least I'm hoping  :) I can only take it easy for so long.

Here's what I got done this week

Hexies, good project for the couch not sure where I'm going with this, but I really like this one

I was hoping this was going to be a good project for the couch but not so much.  I tried hand applique and really I can't do it, so I'm doing the appilique for Dear Jane by machine.  I know it's crazy but I just can't get the hang of the hand applique.  Here's two blocks I got done this week  That's it for couch projects

I did get a little time in the sewing room and finished up all the blocks for the last H2H quilt, just need to sash and put on the border and it'll be ready to go.

I started quilting one of the H2H quilts, hoping to get this one finished today.   I was going to do an all over quilting pattern but really kept going back ot the lines so I just went for it.  I hope it looks ok when it's done,

I also received 2 beauties to quilt for QOV.  Sharon V helped me get over my fear of quilting for others so I volunteered to quilt for QOV.  I'll post those when I get them done.  I'm hoping to get a start on them this weekend.  Stop by Sarah's to see what everyone else is up to and Whooping about.

What I did on my sewing vacation....

Oh, is it over already????  What a wonderful week I had!!

Here's  a few of the things I got done this week.

1.  Little Smiles Granny Square quilt was quilted and bounded - quilted with puppies, so cute
2.  Finished the last of the 16 Swoon blocks and have the blocks sewn into rows
3.  Started Half Moon Modern Log cabin and learned how to do Baptist Fans for quilting - this one is done!  And it's a quick and cute way to use a Jelly Roll you can check it out here  Directions are included in the post and there's an EQ7 project on the Tutorials and EQ7 tab.  This is my first H2H quilt, all done
4.  My second H2H quilt has the center together - the EQ7 project for this one can is available.  I just need to get the borders on it.  I used the bonus triangles from the Swoon blocks.

4.  I quilted joanandmikesquarepants.  Look at this, I have a Christmas present finished and it's only April :)  The pattern for this quilt can be found here at Lilly's Qulits.  I used a ruler on the feather spines and the rest is freehand.  Oh ruler on the circles, man I wish I could do circles freehand :)

5.  Two more Dear Jane Blocks done

6. Had a little visit with the Easter Bunny!

So I think I did pretty good on my "practice for retirement" vacation.    Now when people as what I'll do when I retire, I'll send them this link :)

Whooping it up on Friday

Only three days left in my sewing vacation.  I think I've made pretty good use of my time.  I did finish my first quilt for H2H, I was so excited about it that I posted it yesterday.  It's a Half Moon Modern Log Cabin quilt, you can find it here. Such an easy pattern for a jelly roll.  I pieced it in one day and quilted it the next.  I have the directions on the blog post and also have the EQ7 project on the "tutorials and EQ7" tab.  You don't really need the EQ7 project, it's just nice to have if you want to play around with different size logs, etc.  So one quilt down.

And I started on the next.  This is the pattern that I did for the scrap challenge that Sarah hosted a while ago.  I thought it would be great to use the pattern for Hands 2 Help.  I'm using the bonus triangle from my 16 Swoon blocks. Enough to make 25 blocks.  I just have 8 more to go.  I had to sew the first 16 together, I really wanted to see how it looks.  I have this block and the quilt on the EQ7 project tab as well.  The EQ7 project has 3.5 inch unfinished squares.  This uses 2.5 inch unfinished squares. That's what size the bonus triangle turned out to be so that's what I used :)

I started marking my Made in Cherry quilt.  It could take me months to get this thing marked. I'm only marking the yellow parts and doing an all over  something in the star.  Marking is not my favorite part. The quilt really is flatter than it looks here, I'm just a lazy photographer.

One last thing to show.  I did manage to get 2 more Dear Jane blocks done.

Don't forget to stop by Sarah's to see what everyone is whooping about.

Ok, time to get back to my sewing vacation :)

DWM - not a bad sewing weekend after all

Granny Sqaures
I think I did pretty good this weekend.  8 more granny square blocks, 4 blocks of suebobsquarepants, 4 Dear Jane blocks and Mirage is done.  I honestly thought that Mirage would never make it off the Waiting to Be Quilted list, but nope surprised my self.  It's not my favorite but it's a finish :)

Whooping It up on Friday

Well I got a little more done this week than last week.  I couldn't resist the granny squares.  I'm making a baby/toddler size quilt for a boy.  I just love the granny squares.

I did finish Sea Shards, but I'm so tired of it that I'm not going to post again until it's quilted.

And I finally started on my Dear Jane Blocks - 3 done - oh so many many more to go.
