Final Sew Day for Hands to Help and Care Givers (Helping Hands) 2019

Wow!!!  This, my friends is love. These people spent many weekends making not 20 but 21 quilts! We have 10 for hands 2 help, 10 for caregivers/helping hands (I’ll be sharing their stories over the next two weeks) and one was made for a friend to give to her friend who has cancer. My heart is full. Here are 13 quilts -from top to bottom- Jodi, Liane, Laurie, Veronika, Suzan,Dorothy, Robert, Abby and me. Kim has one out for binding,Kathleen has two being quilted, one for binding and one she made, Greg N Annette donated 2, and Cari has one for binding, Tom for keeping us nourished. AND.....we finished Abby’s improv string quilt today! Simply amazing. Thank you all for the time, the effort, the laughs and the greatest quilt drive yet! We’ll have the full quilt show in two weeks!

And there was a surprise top!  We had the two above completed before lunch.  We still have piles of strings all over.  Abbey had one block completed from last week.  We (well me)  really wanted the blocks on point.  She had an example of one that looked great and before you know it, they had all the blocks ready to go!!!  No pattern, just pure creativity being let loose, love how this one turned out.  And a few more strings were used in the process!

And that's a wrap, Hands 2 Help 2018 Grand Finale

The grand Finale!! Hands 2 Help 2018 has come to and end. These wonderful quilters created 8 beauties for some wonder causes. Quilty Hugs for Happy Chemo gets 2 quilts, Little Lambs Foundation for Kids gets 2 quilts, Project Linus local to McHenry Co will get 2 quilts and Sage Cancer Center in McHenry will get 2 quilts from this year and 5 from the previous year. Dorothy, Veronika, Laurie, Liane Koehl, Robert, Tom, Deborah - thank you for all you do! We met our goal of 8 quilts this year, and I do think they are the best quilts we've made so far!! Can't wait for Hands 2 Help 2019. Next year for our local donations are going to change it up a little. We will still make quilts for hands 2 help, but we're going to give our local quilts to the care givers of those that receive our quilts. They care for those under the worst of circumstances and comfort those in pain, in need, and in fear. I think it would be great one year to recognize some of those outstanding individuals who make a difference in this world. So if you know of anyone deserving, let us know and we'll get them on our list. Here's a few pictures of what this group of quilters accomplished this year. Baby Boy Tube Quilt.

I've got a couple of things on my design wall.  Trying to use up some more of those 2.5 in strips and a layer cake that was laying around.  The first is a tube quilt using 2.5 in strips, it's baby size and used up a few that I had laying around.  Second is inspired by a quilt I saw @ Brynn Sews  This was her entry in the Spring 2012 Bloggers Quilt Festival.  I just love this one!!  I had a couple of 15 fat quarter bundles that I put together and added a few solids and I got 3 quilts out of that group of fat quaters.  This was is a bit larger than I really wanted, but I also did want any scraps from that bundle and this used up every last bit!  Just need to sew the rows together and through on the borders and done!

My 300th post is the next post and I want to have a give away.  I'm thinking either a fat quarter bundle or giving away quilting - an edge to edge design for up to a queen size quilt.  What do you think, fabric or quilting?  Everyone loves yummy fabrics, but I really love the quilting :) UPDATE:  I'm so delighted that a number of you want quilting for the giveaway.  It's like an extra bonus for me.  I am going to offer the quilting and as a back up in case the person who wins just does not want the quilting, there will be a fat quarter bundle.  Don't forget to stop back on Friday for the giveaway!

Oh it is wonderful to have a sewing vacation!!  I'm getting pretty close to having all the quilts for 100 quilts for kids completed, plus a couple of extras - so here's what I got done this week - quilted and binding done, all washed and just waiting for the rest to be completed.

Shower Stash Quilt #1 - panto is Pansies - free from Urban Elementz

Baby Stash Quilt #2 - free had dragonfly, flowers and loops

Baby Stash Quilts and Twins quilts were made from 2 packs of Bloggers Fat Quarters from the Fat Quarter shop.  They have a monthly pack which is awesome, 15 fat quarters 3 of which are solids.  The pattern is based on a pattern from Queen Bee Stitchified I used 3.5 inch strips since I only had 15 and I cut the lengths to be 18, 12, 6 - Add the solid white and you get two quilts out of each pack.  Plus enough for scrappy bindings for all with  a little left over for strings.

I've add the pantographs names to the quilts captions if your interested.  I like to practice pantos on the smaller quilts, but sometimes I just really like to freehand things.  So I tried a couple new patterns and really liked them, especially the overall dragonflies, flowers and loops.  I'll definitely try that again.  I'm trying to do a different pattern on each quilt. The twins were both the same though, I thought that was appropriate.
