Chevrons 3 different ways

Meg wanted a chevron quilt for baby shower gift.  So I decided to give her a couple of choices.  Colors are yellow and grey.  I had a little fun with these.  First up the basic chevron. All of these are 3.5 in HSTs, all have the same yellow fabric.  All have the same backing, I had all three loaded on the frame at one time.
Chevron Quilt #1 (catchy name right?)

The second is just an alternating chevron.  I tried this one with the scrappy greys and it was just way too much.  I settled it down a bit with the solid grey.
Chevron Quilt #2

The last one was a bit of fun with squares and different size chevrons.  What fun, I'll post the EQ7 project with all three next week some time.
Chevron #3

The back is grey flannel (so soft) with the left over yellow strips and a couple of grey ones so that I had enough.  Love when I don't have to put scraps away :) Hobbs polydown batting.  Light and warm. Glide thread on top light grey and magna glide bobbins. Oh boy I'll have to go take a look the name of the pantograph  All are 42x48, which I think is a great size for babies, big enough to lay on the floor for tummy time.  So how many different ways have you made chevron quilts?

I also got to spend a little time with the grandsons, we had some fun with pumpkins and guacamole.

Hope everyone has great quilty week.  Check out the linky parties on the side bar for lots of inspiration.

What the last Design Wall Monday in September? Say it ain't so....

Oh boy where did Sept slip off to?  I've got to pay closer attention.  Well a whole month has gone by and not much to show for it.  I did make some progress on a much easier wind down project, my chevrons.  I've 2 of 3 put together.  They look very different don't they?  They both have similar yellows, one had a few more.  One has scrappy grey the a constant grey.  One more to go.  I think it's interesting how changing a couple of things  can make the fabrics look

I did get one little sweet thing quilted.  Just a plan simple all over stipple is all this crazy little guy could handle.  I think I like the back better than the front.  But it was nice to work on all that crazy color in my neutralized sewing space.  Hobbs 80/20 batting, glide thread on top, flannel and cotton backing, I love the binding.

Lots of visual stimulation for tummy time

Love those smiley faces!!

And I entered my first ever local quilt show, gotta say I was pretty nervous.  But much to my surprise, I won a blew ribbon for shining star!!  That just kinda made my day!

How do you wind down after a big finish?

I have to say that finishing Black Sea was one of the best feelings ever.  When you really want to make a quilt that pushes you to the edge of you capabilities without pushing you over, is the biggest thing (literally) that you've made, and is just so perfect for the recipient, well what is it you do after THAT???  Here's the final post for Black Sea, the story behind it.  Such a great feeling that was all the way through it.  But now what? Well now we make 672 HSTs for three little baby quilts. That's what we do.  Here's the first, all three will be the same fabrics, different variations of chevron quilt.
224 of the 672 HSTs
And  you work on projects that you have going but halted completely because you were so enthralled with the other quilt.
Old Friends BOM getting it all together.

Then we do a little painting and redecorating.  We're are getting ready to sell the house in the next 6 months or so and my wonderful color has to be for some more marketable neutrals.  I've added splashes of color here and there.
The quilt hanging on the wall is going in the show

But the long arm room couldn't be neutralized as I had Black Sea on the frame.  Long arm room is going next.  White on these walls.  I'm getting quilts ready for the local quilt show the weekend of Sept 25.  Here's three in this in this room in the show

And this one as well. My first local quilt show, pretty exciting. If you are in the McHenry County area the weekend of the Sept 25, stop by the quilt show.  Here's the details: Join us for our triennial quilt show! Over 250 quilts on display. Vendors, silent auction, Civil War quilts, and more!

Saturday, September 26th 10am - 3pm

So what do you do after you wind down from a huge project?

Hope everyone has a great week.  Check out the linky parties on the side bar, something for everyday of the week.

Guess who's back.....

My girl April is back.  She's so well rested and ready to go.   She sounds so good with all her new boards, belts and stuff.  She even has interchangeable feet.  Can't wait to give the those a try when I do the custom quilting for Lorisquarepant.
April's back - yahoooooo!!
I have two quilts finished, the Awesome lap quilt and Little Boy Blue Chevron quilt - done.  I used the same pantograph on both Curly Q.  The little boy blue quilt is turned 90 degrees, I think it makes it looks a bit like a wave pattern, with the teals and blues I thought it was perfect.  Little Boy Blue has Hobbs Polydown batting  and the Awesome Lap Quilt has Hobb's 80/20 batting.  I had scraps big enough for both.  I really like getting the king size rolls simply for this reason. The scraps are usually big enough for a small lap or baby quilt and don't have to be pieced.  Although as you can see, sometimes really close! Love it.

Curly Q pantograph
You know I just love brigh!!
Even the back is crazy wild
Little Boy Blue Chevron (3 in finish HST)
Curly Q flipped 90 degrees
Little Boy Blue back - looks like waves in the water doesn't it?
I still have 3 quilts lined up with backings ready to go.  And here's my wild design wall.  I did another Charm Pack Cherry this time with out a background color, I really like it.  a couple of other works in progress.

Check out all the linky parties on the side bar.  Oh and 100 quilts for kids is coming up soon!! There's a new button right at the top.  So excited!!

Labyrinth Done - updated

Oh my it's done.  This took 3 weekends and I used almost 16 bobbins of Bottom Line 60 wt thread on this beauty.  Didn't they chose wonderful fabrics for this quilt, which is for her daughter?  Mom and daughter liked the first Labyrinth that I quilted for my nephew with only a few changes in the borders and the background pattern.  They wanted feathers, who I am I deny them feathers :)  You know how much I love to quilt feathers!

UPDATE - Therese has given me permission to share the story of her quilt.  Therese is a semi-retired special education teacher.   Already you know she's special right?  She's been married for 39 years and has 3 children, 5 grand children with another on the way.  This quilt is for her oldest daughter Andrea and her husband.  Andrea is also another special person.   She has lost 3 girls, including a set of twins due to premature birth.  Now if that isn't enough for one person to handle, Andrea has been nicely recovering from thyroid cancer over the past year.   Her mother made this quilt as a means of having something special and beautiful for all the struggles they've been through.    I was truly touched by this.   Every quilt has a story and this one certainly has a very special story. This quilt is made with so much love and caring.  I hope Andrea and her husband feel the love and God's blessings every time they use this quilt.  The prayer cloth quilted  right behind the star will certainly help with that.  Therese and Andrea, thank you for sharing your story and letting me be a very small part of this quilt.

Do you see the spot I missed, why can't I get everything the first time?  One of the cathedral windows doesn't have both sets of arcs.  It does now, finished it up on the DSM.  This is why we take so many pictures :)

And one other finishes the Scrappy Baby Chevron, quilted and binding complete.
