True Lovers Knot - wow, now that's a busy quilt

I've had a couple of snow days lately.  I still had to work remotely, but I did get to sew on my lunch hour and the extra two hours a day (no commute time) really helped.  I have all the center blocks done for the true lovers knot.  Boy is that a busy quilt or what??  I wonder if I should add some sashing between the blocks to try to tone it down a bit.  Need to figure that out before I add the 5 borders.  I'm just not sure what color to use for a sashing on this.  Hmmm, thoughts?  Suggestions?

  1. Hi, Sue! I like the quilt, and in the picture it doesn't look too busy - I'm not sure what sashing will do to it. You've got a design wall, so give it a test run. Maybe a saturated cocoa color?

    Great work! Whoop Whoop!! ;-)

  2. With the knots alternating sizes, I don't think sashing will enhance the effect. Right now, they're nesting. That would go away. I vote: no sashing. It doesn't look too busy to me, but if you need to calm the effect, quiet borders might help. Might 5 borders be too many?

  3. I agree with Rita - the block design is a ying/yang and they nest for the flow of the piece. A sashing would break the whole effect of the piece - NO to sashing. I would stay with just 2 borders - 3 tops, that is were your 'calming' effect will be.

  4. Whoop-Whoop! That's amazing and looks really hard. I love how they nest together and seem to go on forever. Like the commenters above, I think sashing would ruin the overall effect.

  5. I like it without sashing--and I'm looking forward to seeing it with five borders.
Nice accomplishment--great way to put the monster blizzard of 2011 to good use!

  6. I love it just the way it is!! No sashing needed, IMO. It doesn't strike me as busy, just very striking and fun to look at--the best kind of quilt!

  10. WOW! I love this pattern and the colors are perfect. I like it as is, but like Sarah, I say...throw up a few strips on the design wall and test drive the sashing.

  11. This is beautiful just as it is. I'm with Sarah and Jamie though. If you're undecided, put the fabric that you'll be using for the borders up and see how you like it...You don't want to diminish the effect of the quilt but this is your quilt and only you know what you like best. Please let us see what you decide.
