What does over 2.5 Miles of thread look like?

Marie has two pillow shams and throw pillows to go with her square pants quilt (blog post here) ,  Goodness she is going to have quite the ensemble isn't she?  I love the pillow shams and the throw pillows with the accent fabric, just so refreshing and tropical.   I'm going to miss having this little ray of sunshine on the frame!! Ok, so the total bobbins (shams, pillows and quilt) came to 36.  There are 130 yds / bobbin ( I have the L bobbin not that wonderful big M bobbin).  36 x 130 = 4,680 yds  - that's over 2.5 miles of bobbin thread alone.  But it is a thin thread, 60 wt and the thread for the white areas was 50wt.  Now I don't normally count how much thread is used, but the magna glide bobbins have that cute little teal core that's left.  I just toss them in a magnetic tray and they sit there very happily waiting to be counted.  I did finish one of the large cones of linen Premosoft thread.  I don't know why but I always get a thrill when I have an empty cone.   Definitely feels like I have completed some quilting!!
Pillow Shams and pillows - Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 + wool batting, presoft and glide thread on top, magna glide bobbins.

Nothing else noteworthy was done.  I made a few of the little nine patches for the Old Friends BOM and I did get the backing cut for the mammoth shining star.  I sure hope to get that on the frame next weekend!

Stop by all the linky parties on the side bar, something for every day of the week!

  7. My first thought you were using Glide Delights - but Classics. WOW that is a lot of thread. The end result was well worth the effort.

  8. This project is so magnificent. Beautiful job! It's definitely one where "the quilting makes the quilt!" So, did you say LINEN Premasoft thread? I'm not familiar with that and have never heard of anyone quilting with linen thread before. Is this specifically for longarm machines? Is it lighter or heavier weight? Expensive? What do you like about this thread versus cotton, poly, silk, or rayon?

  13. Your quilting is always so inspiring. "When I grow up..." I want to quilt like you. BTW, how did you know it was 2 1/2 miles of thread? Just curious. I'd like to know how to calculate how much thread I use in projects. Thank you for sharing it on KISMIF and come back sometime. I'd love to see your projects!--Shannon

  18. Those are gorgeous! While you were counting, did you keep track of how many hours it took? I've always wondered how much work went into those intricately quilted quilts.
