DWM 5/27 - Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial, and thanks to all who serve so that we can celebrate this wonderful day.

In honor of memorial day I finished a QOV that was sent by Jane who is my QOV partner this month.   Beautiful strings  on this one, love how it looks together.  I used a stencils for the string blacks and simple  straight line quilting around each of the blocks.   Love this one.

I did get a lot of things done yesterday.  But not a lot of pictures  yet to show  for it :)  I went through the batting scraps  and was able to put together all four battings needed for the H2H quilts. And I still have some left.  I pieced all the backs for the quilts and now just need to get them quilted.  I'm trying to resist the "quilt it like crazy" urge and hoping more for finished:)  Well I have one quilted - Twinkle.  I used fantasy flame pantograph  on this one, just love the texture it gives.  And I get can get a quilt completely quilted in a couple of hours with this one.

I got the last of the tops pieced - this is the girls pezzy print zig zag- now on to the quilting....

DWM 5/21 and Hands 2 Help

What a wonderful weekend.  Didn't get a whole lot of sewing in, but definitely some.  And plenty of time spent at the bloggers sprint quilt festival (see side button).  This year they have categories and you can enter 2 quilts - twice the fun, twice the inspiration!  Seriously, ya gotta go check it out.  Amazing.

I worked on Hands 2 Help quilt number 3 this weekend.  The zig zag quilt.  I had 4 charm packs plus or minus a few, mostly minus.  I just wasn't pleased with the size it need a border.  I didn't have anything by charms of or smaller of the solid fabrics and honestly not a whole lot of those either. So I added this border but not sure that I'm completely sold on it.  I still have the girl version to go as well which has the same minus issue.   Hmmmm, have to think about this one a bit more.  But I'm not going to buy more of the pezzy fabrics. Why is it that when you try to use what you have, you have to buy something more??
And I worked on Plaid Obsession #2.  I'm not longer obessed, I need to get these plaids out of the sewing room.  The part of the sewing room that you don't see, looks like someone threw up plaid strings!!  Gotta get this last one done.

Blogger Quilt Festival - entry number 2 - yes 2!!!

It's that time of year again. Need some inspiration? Stop by Amy's creative side for the creative goodness this festival has to offer!  And this year it's all organized in an entirely different way - and you can have 2 entries! Twice the fun, twice the inspiration
AmysCreativeSide.com
Entry number 2 is Joan and Mike Square Pants.  This was another quilt along on line.  I love the fabric line that I used, a fat quarter bundle - but can't remember what the name is...dang.  But it did have wonderful flowers in it for Joan who's a gardner.  And strong colors for Mike.  Joan and Mike are daughter number 2's in-laws and the sweetest people ever.  When daughter number two and son in law number 1 were expecting, I knew that Joan and Mike needed a quilt to cuddle with grandson number 2 :)

And my entry is the Kaleidoscope Quilt.  The quilt along back in 2011.  It took me quite a while to quilt it.  I used Moda Bliss fat quarter bundle.  I used every last scrap on the back.  I was quite pleased with my self using up all those scraps.  I had so much fun quilting this one.  I really let go and quilted this one within an inch of it's life :)

Happy Mother's Day and DWM

I hope all the moms out there had a wonderful Mother's day.  It was a be cool and breezy here in the Midwest so I opted for some indoor activity.  What better indoor activity than quilting :)  I finished the top for one of my H2H quilts, so that makes to tops done.  And the blocks for the 3rd.  Not bad for a laid back quilting weekend.
Double D9P
This is my last d9p.  I did have a lot of fun with them and got to use up some of the solids I had from shirts and charm packs.  No idea what to do for the quilting on this one.
Pezzy Zig Zag
I had a few Pezzy Prints charm packs and finally decided to use them.  This is the boys version and the girls version next weekend.  Keeping the ovals all in the right direction was a bit tough at times.  I know I'm going to need my seam ripper when I go to sew the blocks together.

Cyberquilters D9P QAL

Cyberquilters (yahoo group) had a quilt along this weekend.  Lots of fun with the D9P.  I have 3 baby quilts done.  These are fabrics that I got at the estate sale a couple weeks ago.
Doesn't that make you dizzy?
Here's the first one before cutting the 9 patch. After below.  Love the backing fabric.  It's from Ikea.  My daughter needed a pillow. She got her pillow and I had enough left over for a baby quilt.  We all know how that happens :)
After - still makes me dizzy :)
At least the back doesn't make me dizzy
On the last two, I opted for simple border and getting them done.  Seriously, I love the binding best of all.

9 patch before
Quilt 1 after
Quilt 2 After
I quilted both of these at the same time.  They both have this backing fabric- Ikea fabric.
What fun that was!  I've got the "I need to start a new project" out of my system.  Now, back to those strings, gotta finish up the last one. So 3 baby quilts done and 18 miles on the bike this weekend.  Not too bad.
