Swooning over a finish

I did it!!!  I FINALLY finished the gigantic Swoon Quilt.  I had the rows all sewn together just needed to sew the rows together.  And goodness there are only four.  But I really don't like sewing rows together.  Not sure why, but it's my least favorite thing of all.  Now, these are some long rows mind you, 106 inches long.  But it's done now and I'm going to quilt this baby like crazy!  I'm really trying to decide if I need to add another 2 inch border.  I want this on my bed and I know it's going to lose some in the quilting process.  But how much?   I laid it on the bed and I think I have 2 inches to play with on each side.  I know I should but man, that's like adding another 4 rows.  Look how long it took me to get these four rows together.

I made some progress on my budding 9 patch as well. I'm really liking how this is turning out.

  1. Well done Sue on getting this top together! Doesn't it look great?! Your little nine-patch looks fun - what size are the blocks - it's a neat idea.

  4. Alrighty!!! Congratulations on your finish. It looks terrific. Once I finish the blocks, I don't enjoy much of the rest myself.

  7. Where did you get the pattern for the budding 9 patch? So cute and looks quite simple but I'm the type that NEEDS a pattern! Thanks so much.

  8. Your budding nine patch is so pretty. The colors just pop. I have made a couple of Blooming nine patches, but like the square size of yours. More ideas for future quilts~

  9. Your swoon looks great. As painful as adding borders is, I'd add at least 2" of border. When it is finally washed I bet it will lose a little more length and width. Can't wait to see what you do with the quilting.

  10. If I ever decide to make my DS#1 a quilt, you've proven the swoon block is one to use - it will have to be a California King! Wonderful job, Sue. Looking forward to seeing how you quilt it. The budding nine patch is great, too!

  12. It is hard to believe that only 16 blocks make a king sized quilt: looking forward to seeing it on your bed. Are you going to quilt each block individually? Of course you are. And I love your Budding 9 Patch, I've never seen one before.

  13. Love both of your quilts. They are so different from each other, but both are beautiful! I know what you mean. I usually make large quilts, but I don't like to work on them once they get large.

  18. Haha, I feel the exact same way about sewing rows (or borders)! It easily takes me longer to do that than any other part of the quilting process). Your quilt turned out beautiful though- well worth the time it took to sew the rows :)

  23. Great Swoon! I just picked out my fabrics (from a fat quarter bundle in my stash). Can't wait to make one! And the Budding nine patch is gorgeous! It looks like a giant puzzle. It's fabulous.

  24. I came over from the Quilt Story for the nine patch - which is so awesome! But there is a Swoon quilt too! That looks lovely as well. My least favorite part is sewing rows together too. I think the end is so close but it takes so much longer than you think it will. Wonderful quilts going on here!
