It is my circus, those are my monkeys

Two finishes squeaking in at the end of the year.  I love panel quilts.  They are quick to put together and so much fun to quilt.  I have two more of these done, just need to add the binding.  I used bottom line thread on top, wanted a thin thread to keep it a bit softer.  Hobbs poly down batting, light and warm.  Flannel back with a strip of fun colorful cotton.  I had three of these on the frame at one time.  Nice to have them done.

I've had this sweet tumbler done for some time now.  Finally got in on the frame.  I watched a Green Fairy Quilts you tube video on feather swirls and just went for it.  So much fun, fast and easy.  I figure with this busy print if it didn't turn out, you wouldn't be able to tell!  I will definitely use that one again.  Hobbs polydown, Glide thread on top, bottom line in the bobbin

I used the left over fabric from the Sonny quilt and made this bright and cheery tumbler.  I'm calling this one Sunset, no more sunny fabrics.  I'm in the "use them up" mode rather than putting them away. LOL the leftover quilt is much bigger than the baby quilt!
Sunset
And speaking of using up, I had so much satisfaction taking all the left over fabric from Moon glow and cutting into very simple 5 in charms, them sewing those together!!  I had so much trouble with moon glow and so little trouble with this one :)  I'm calling this one Moon dust.  It will have a black border, then a partial colorfull border in two corners finishing up with a black border.

So nice to get some much needed sewing therapy in the end of the year.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season so far!!  Don't forget to check out the linky parties on the side bar and see what everyone is getting done the last few days of 2015

Design Frame Monday

Nothing new on the design wall this Monday.  But I did get in a finish, a real finish.   Here's the scrappy tumblers.  I used a new pantograph, Fern by Patricia Ritter.  It was fast, easy and has that feathery feel, what's not to love about that.  Batting is Hobbs Polydown, glide thread on top and magna glide thread on the bottom.  I'm so excited to have a quilt with a pantograph, I don't know why but I do love them!

love the texture

the back is as crazy as the front
And in the exact opposite direction from a pantograph, I have shining star on the frame.  Even though the pictures show a nice difference between the light and dark, it is a bit subtle.  So I want to differentiate the light from the dark in quilting.  The light is gong to have the strong straight lines, ya this is going to take a while.  I have to mark and use a ruler.  I think it actually takes longer to mark than it does to quilt!!  The darker colors are going to have some sort of feathers (surprised right?).  Actually I did three blocks with the lines and was trying to take it out.  But I have two layers of batting, wool and 80/20 blend and I just had such a hard time getting those stitches out that I gave up and just went with the lines!!  I like them better now that I've done a couple of rows.  Still thinking about the feathers, I've got some time to think about it.  I've gotten 4/13 rows done with the ruler work on the light colors.

This is gonna take a while....

Frame Friday and a couple of top finishes

Hello 2015!!  What a great quilting start I've gotten on this year.  That humongous log cabin king size quilt - not only are the blocks done but they are all sewn together!!  This thing is plenty big enough to handle the shrinkage from quilting and the first washing, I LOVE it.  It's subtle and colorful and everything I like.  I'm going to go some fancy stitching on the star to bring that out a big more.  Can't wait to get this big ol' thing on the frame.  Oh boy will you at the mess in that room.  I was so busy getting those blocks together that I didn't tidy up a bit.  Plenty of time left in 2015 for that tidy up stuff :)
Shining Star ready for quilting
I also have a tumbler in Kaffe Fassett prints.  Just an extra throw for the bed for little naps or extra chilly nights.  Nothing subtle about this one at all!

But I have to wait to get those on the frame because I have Marie's square pants quilt on the frame.  I love her fabrics.  You can't tell from the pictures but one of the prints has gold in it, so it sparkles when I'm quilting, so fun!!  Oh boy can you see that one spot where I forgot the pebbles in the feather vein?  I always forget something when I do custom quilting.  This is why it's a good idea to take pictures *while* you are working on something.  Easy fix when you catch it while it's still on the frame.

Do you wee where I skipped the pebbles, you know what I'll be doing first on this one.

I love pictures from under the frame
Hope everyone has had a great start for 2015!  Check out the linky parties on the left side bar, there's a few for Fridays'

Happy December!!

December, I won't lie.  I always love the first month of Winter (which I consider December not January).   I love the first snow, I love the brisk air and all the giving spirit.  By January 2 I usually come to my senses and can't wait to be done with the Winter.  But right now, on the first day of December I'm loving it!  Just a few things on the design was, design table, design frame.  I've got stuff all over!!  On the table a few less bags a few more connected logs and it's getting there.  On the frame the Kaffee Fassett tumbler (love all those bright colors) and on the wall 64 finished log cabin blocks (105 are still waiting their turn on the table).
105 blocks in progress
64 of the blocks for option 1 (my favorite)  - this will have have the star off center, just don't have the blocks yet
64 blocks of Option 2 (hubby favorite)

Kaffee Fassett Tumbler - will go great with the shot cotton log cabin
I did have a quick finish.  The frame was empty and I had a panel quilt ready to go.  Couple of hours later, and I had a cute little finish.  I think the panel is call Josie's Aquarium.  I just added the 3 borders and it was ready to go.

My sewing staycation day 2

Yep I've got a three day sewing stayacation.  On day one, I finished the binding on this H2H quilt.  I made two of these, one for the etsy shop the other for a donation quilt.  Both my girls in college want this one so I ordered more fabric.  This will be the first time I've ever made 4 of the same quilts using the same fabrics.  But I do like them - Joel Dewberry Botanique - and Craftsy has them at 20% off I think.

Cozy flannel on the back, I think this will be good for Happy Chemo
And I used all be a couple of strips of this bundle, finished up a tumbler quilt, have I told you how quick and easy these are with the accuquilt die?  Goodness I just love it.  Quilted with a freehand all over swirl.  Batting is Hobbs Polydown.  Glide thread on top - silver grey was just perfect.  Bottom line in the bobbin.  Finish is off with a nice flannel backing and a scrappy binding and we're done.  This one turned out 45 x 51ish

Here's a jelly roll quilt made with Citrus jelly roll, love the colors, just a simple pattern, so two strips together. cut the quarter triangles, I got 4 triangles from each strip set.  Then pair them up and sew em together.  Simple freehand swirl, hobbs 80/20 (had a left over piece big enough for this one, love when that happens). Glide on top a soft pale yellow and bottom  line in the bobbin.    This one is a bit smaller, 36 x 42 but still a nice size baby quilt.

And I have 3 more quilts cut out and ready to sew, 1 will go in the shop and the other two will go for H2H - my goal is 9 quilts - 3 per charity, but if I only hit 6, 2 per charity, I'm really pleased with that too.

Don't forget to check out the linky parties on the side bar, so much quilty goodness out there. Over at Sharon's from Vroomans Quilts, she's having a may for me linky party, and there's a give away too.  Go here to check it out, I'm on my way over there now!

Tumblers

I saw this quilt over at Modest Michelle and knew I had to have one for myself.  Ok not for me, for Hand 2 Help, this H2H quilt #4.  I'm making two of these, but daughter #4 claimed H2H #4's twin :)  I have it all pieced and ready to go.  Actually it's quilted but there wasn't enough natural day light to get a picture.  I'll post the finished quilt later in the week.  The colors are awful in this picture.  I'll try to get a better one when it's completed.
Tumblers - H2H #4
Here's some updated pics on the Tumblers - size is 66 x 74, batting hobbs 80/20, pantograph is flipping frawns and thread is glide on top, bottom line on the bottom.

And a start on my throw size triangle quilt.  I've got 14ish Amy Butler FQs all cut up and ready for my first ever triangle quilt.  So excited. Yep I used the accuquilt die for these.  I love this triangle die as much as I do the tumbler die.

Happy Easter and Design Wall Monday

Happy Easter, hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday.  I had brunch with the Easter Bunny Photo: Happy Easter!
I've got a couple of almost finishes. These are for twins, a boy and girl, can you tell which is which?

Here's H2H quilt #4 - I seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE the accuquilt tumbler die.  I don't think there's any way to mess these up.  Need to finish the first border, then 2 more after that. And speaking of accuquilt, I did finish my triangle table runner just in time for brunch with the Easter Bunny and I think I'm all ready to make a full size quilt with triangles.  I have a bundle of solid fat quarters that I can't wait to cut up and try.  Another great die by accuquilt.  Not affiliated,  just a happy quilting customer :)

Check out all the linky love on the side bar, lots of inspiration all through the week.
