Bloggers Quilt Festival Spring 2015 - small quilt - Grow Wise Little Own

Amy is hosting the BQF again this spring, and I've got this little cutie for the Small Quilt category.  The pattern is Owl Duets by Katie Wiseman  It was made for my husbands God Son and his wife who were expecting their first child, so it had to be special.  They are very outdoorsy types and the nursery was forest woodland theme.  We didn't know if it was a girl or boy so when with gender neurtal colors.  I used fusible applique for the owls and the branch.   The little saying was embroidered.   Of course when you have birds on your quilt you have to have feathers right??  Of course I quilted, feathers, leaves, swirls in the background.  In the top border I quilted letters, numbers in the bottom.  Down in the corner I quilted a welcome message to the baby.  What fun this was!!  The quilt was made from a number of leftovers from the baby's older cousins quilt that I had made a couple months prior.  What fun to use the same fabric for all quilts for all 4 cousins.

Bloggers Quilt Festival Spring 2015 - Large Quilts - Shining Star

Here's my large quilt entry.   This baby measures in at 117 x 117, now that is definitely the largest quilt I have ever made, and likely to ever make!!  This one is for my bed.  I had made one other king size quilt, just a bit smaller than this one, and it was worn out.  Yep holes worn in it from almost 12 years of daily use.  I sure how this one last that long cuz I'm not sure I can do another :)  This is a simple log cabin made with 2 different fat quarter bundles of Kaffee Fassett Shot Cottons.  Oh I LOVE the look of the shot cottons, such depth.  My husband loves log cabins and I like a bit more modern so this was a nice middle ground I think.  I used two layers of battting, Hobbs 80/20 on the bottom and Tuscany Wool on Top.  Glide thread was used on the top and magna glide in the bobbin.   I wanted the quilting to help differentiate between the light and the dark areas.  Light areas got the straight line point to point quilting and the dark areas got the yummy feathers.  No surprise that my quilt has feathers right?  So here's a few pics of fresh new quilt with no holes!!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I'm entering my budding nine patch in the bloggers quilt festival. This was one of my happiest mistakes ever.  It was *suppose* to be a blooming nine patch. But I didn't quite get the blooming part and only used half of the nine patches required, so not quite a bloom more like a bud, thus budding nine patch.   I have the pattern in tutorials link, but only in EQ7 sorry.  It's really not hard to figure out though. The squares are 3.5 in and I just alternate them.  Here's some pictures

Stop by Amy's and see all the rest of the amazing quilts and if you haven't entered yet, get something in there!  Lots and lots of prizes!!

So my entry this fall is a very special quilt for two very special people.  It's a wedding quilt for my nephew and his beautiful bride!  I knew I wanted something special for them and I wanted it to be a tad bit more modern than traditional.  These two fit together so perfectly that I knew Labyrinth was the quilt for them.  I love how the squares fit inside each other.  Each having their own different aspects and able to stand alone completely but when seen together, they highlight and strengthen each other.  That's just like the happy couple.

And here is their quilt.  This is the first quilt that I used a ruler on, so I went a little crazy, and hey they've  have been known to do that from time to time as well.  I put a different design on each square but tried to keep some things in common through out, the 1/4 in edge with pebble.  A unifying aspect, appropriate for a wedding quilt huh?

So here you go, hope  you enjoy.

And seriously are they not the cutest couple EVER???

And my entry is the Kaleidoscope Quilt.  The quilt along back in 2011.  It took me quite a while to quilt it.  I used Moda Bliss fat quarter bundle.  I used every last scrap on the back.  I was quite pleased with my self using up all those scraps.  I had so much fun quilting this one.  I really let go and quilted this one within an inch of it's life :)
