Yep, it's all in the bucket. That bucket was full. So far I've made 3 string quilts for 100 Quilts for kids (see button on side bar). You can see the first two here and the third one here (I had some help on that one which was awesome!)
And I just finished another 40 string blocks. All of those strings came out of this bucket. It looks like I haven't even touched these strings. Oh boy I was trying to use them all up, but man I don't know if I have enough quilt backing for as many quilts as I can get out of this bucket. I give up even estimating any more. I wonder if it's like a bag of salad spinach. You know when you get it home and it looks like it's not really a lot, but then you bring out the bowl and holy smokes the whole thing is full and ya might need a bigger bowl. Like tossing them around, sorting, finding the really big ones all kinda loosens' em up so they can take up more space. I don't know how many more string blocks I can do. After all those, I'm looking for something a bit more challenging - like maybe Common Bride???? I think I'm pretty close to having enough courage to get that baby started.
That's a lot of strings! But great job at tackling them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilts Sue! One day I hope to have time for that.
ReplyDeleteYour getting a lot done Sue and those string blocks look great. I checked out the common bride quilt and I understand your hesitation, but it's soooo beautiful!! Whenever you are ready to start it, I'm here on the sidelines, to cheer you on!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel great to make a dent in the stash, especially strings that really aren't too usable? And then you are doing it for charity. Good job. Inspiring me to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI spent 3 days using my GO cutter to cut 2.5" & 1.5" strips - must have cut over a thousand - and I still have more to go. Someone needs to start up a good scrap swap so we can at least have a different variety.
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes is right. Why don't those scraps go away! I've made enough crumb blocks for a quilt and my scrap pile looks like I didn't even touch it! Someone has got to find the answer to this. Lovely blocks, Sue.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Scraps seem to multiply like rabbits! I can't seem to get to the bottom of mine either!
ReplyDeleteYes the never ending bucket or basket of scraps....blocks looks great love the blue and yellow
ReplyDeleteWhat a challenge it is to get to the bottom of those scraps! I am always trying out new ideas to whittle away my bits.
ReplyDeleteSome of my scraps are going to 100 quilts for kids too.
That is a great effort and the quilts are looking wonderful:)
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are beautiful - I always love scrap quilts!!
ReplyDeleteGood on you working your way through all the strings you've done so far! Smashing quilts too :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the blue center strings! looks great!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks Sue and I think your strings are "growing" at night while you're not watching :) Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean about no matter how many strings you use the stash doesn't lessen! Your quilts are going to be treasures to someone who needs them!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to tell how big the bucket it is but you better get to sewing more string blocks. LOL you are so generous making the quilts for the kids.
