RRCB Part 3

Well this one is going to take a while!  I've got 10 blocks done, 50 to go.  Turns out that I'm not that big on neutrals.  Had a hard time finding things and not as large of a variety as I would like. But I did finally get to use the chicken wire fabric that has been in my stash for a very long time!  So what do you think? Too dark?  I tried to limit the number of white on white fabrics but think I might throw a few more in the mix.  This is the first time I'm doing this type of block so not really sure what to expect.  My red, blue and green are are fairly dark so there will be a lot of contrast with these.  Oh and I cut way too many strips.  I'll be looking for another project in 2011 that needs these types of strips.  I think I cut enough for more like 160 blocks.  I just couldn't stop!!

  1. I think you have a nice mix. Remember you can use anything that has a mostly light back ground. Maybe some yellow print, pinks, light blues - small prints with mostly background to them. Keep plugging along.

I'll have to keep that in mind! Maybe I'd better sew some blocks before I cut any more strips.

  3. you are doing way better than I am - my backgrounds are sew bright - more just 'lights' than neutrals!

  5. These are GREAT!! Black is my neutral, and I wasn't sure I had the variety needed either, but after digging around I found more than I thought. I put candy corn/black background in a block this morning. Fun!

  6. Use the backs of some of your fabrics. That way you may be able to use them in more than one place in the block.

  7. I think these look great! they're going to have quite an impact when mixed with the pieces from Clue 1 and 2. Good inspiration for me.

  8. Subee is right...I've used the reverse side of a fabric for a total quilt one time just to tone it down. This way you can use some more up. I think they are gonna be just right.

  9. I think your blocks are great, like the variations with the browns and that pink corner :) - it's going to be very pretty!

I, too, do not have many light neutrals/wow/bow or browns; it's interesting to find what we don't have ... quilt show next month, ummmm think I'll be looking for neutrals - thrift stores first though...LOL
