Black Sea Grand Blocks Done!!!

I did it, finished all nine grand blocks.  I'm getting pretty excited about this.  Now to put that big ol' nine patch together... Black Sea is my version of Judy Martin's Aegean Sea.  I wasn't sure how it was going to be in black, grey and white, but I must say I'm liking it a lot better now that all the grand blocks are complete.

Speaking of nine patches, I've 52 of the *correct* size nine patch blocks done.  Only 28 more to go.  Still not sure what to do with those baby nine patches.  I think there's enough to use as a border for
Old Friends but we'll see.

I love the broken dishes pattern. I  really want to make a full size picnic quilt with nothing but scraps.  This is from a layer cake I had laying around.  I may add on to these, gold and white, not sure.

I did have something on the frame, just pulled it off.  A sweet little panel quilt.  Hobbs 80/20 batting, Premo Soft on top, magna glide bobbins.

I'm also cutting squares for hexies'.  Two long twelve hour rides to make some progress.  I started my hexie project half way through daughter #4's first year of college.  I'll take a picture and show the almost 4 years of progress when I get back.  Boy oh boy, this one may never finish. Design Wall Monday 6/21

Oh my goodness it's been such a buys summer.  Just a whirlwind of activity.  It's hard to believe that we are moving are youngest daughter to Maryland in less than 2 weeks.  Work has been crazy too.  If you've left comments on my blog, thank you so much.  I do love hearing from you and I try very very hard to respond to all comments, even if it's a month late :(  I'll have a 12 hour ride out to the east coast, plenty of time to respond, please forgive my tardiness. In spite of all that is going on (someone tell me that June is NOT 3/4 over - shoot where did it go?) I did get a bit of sewing done.  I'm making great progress on Black Sea.  I have 5 grand blocks done and the next log placed on all the log cabins, ready for some chain stitching.

I also got a bit of work done on Old Friends BOM.   I was so proud of myself working ahead, figuring out those nine patch blocks.  I have all 80 of them done.  Then was so excited to get the first of the nine patch nine patch blocks (there's gotta be a better name).  Seriously it wasn't until I ironed that block that I thought, uh oh somethings not right here.  What was I thinking???????  Oh boy, I know have 80 really cute itty bitty nine patches.  And 80 larger nine patch that I have to make.  So I'm just thinking, I'm not further behind.  I'm certain I"ll find something to do with those cute little nine patches (let me know if you have any ideas) and I'm really further  along in another quilt that I really new :)
80 cute, but much too small nine patches
Oh boy, that's not gonna work
Ready to make 80 more nine patches
lol seriously did not think anything about the size until I ironed that block - just off by 50% - my my my

DWM - Black Sea grand block

Now that hands 2 help is done, I got to work on a few of my projects.  I couldn't decide if I wanted to work on the Old Friends BOM from Calico Girls or Black Sea so I worked on both.  I'm kinda pleased with the progress.  I have the first "grand block" completed for Black Sea (Judy Martins Aegean Sea), only 9 more to go.  I like in the black and grays.  It's hard to see but there is just a tiny bit of blue in the middle of those stars.  IT's a 27 in finished block, it's definitely "grand".

Block 8 came out for Old Friends Bom, I got that one done and figured out the last one.  Now I  have all the sampler blocks done.  I've got about 60 of the 80 nine patches done.  How about that being a step ahead of the game.

Nothing more done on the truck quilt.  I did get a fun book that has some great ideas for the borders, but that's gonna have to wait for another day.  Don't forget to check out all the linky parties on the side bar, some thing for everyday of the week!
