What does over 2.5 Miles of thread look like?

Marie has two pillow shams and throw pillows to go with her square pants quilt (blog post here) ,  Goodness she is going to have quite the ensemble isn't she?  I love the pillow shams and the throw pillows with the accent fabric, just so refreshing and tropical.   I'm going to miss having this little ray of sunshine on the frame!! Ok, so the total bobbins (shams, pillows and quilt) came to 36.  There are 130 yds / bobbin ( I have the L bobbin not that wonderful big M bobbin).  36 x 130 = 4,680 yds  - that's over 2.5 miles of bobbin thread alone.  But it is a thin thread, 60 wt and the thread for the white areas was 50wt.  Now I don't normally count how much thread is used, but the magna glide bobbins have that cute little teal core that's left.  I just toss them in a magnetic tray and they sit there very happily waiting to be counted.  I did finish one of the large cones of linen Premosoft thread.  I don't know why but I always get a thrill when I have an empty cone.   Definitely feels like I have completed some quilting!!

Nothing else noteworthy was done.  I made a few of the little nine patches for the Old Friends BOM and I did get the backing cut for the mammoth shining star.  I sure hope to get that on the frame next weekend!

Feathered Frenzy Fresh from the Frame

Marie's Square Pants quilt finally is done!! Yahoo!  This one took 29 magna glide bobbins just on the quilt alone.  It has two layers of batting, hobbs 80/20 on the bottom, wool on top.  Premo Soft thread on top for the feathers and Glide for the printed areas.  I don't think I've ever used that many bobbins on a quilt before.  Now I just need to finish up the two pillow shames and two throw pillows and the entire set will be done.  I need a nap!

Laptop and Kindle Sleeve

Daughter number 4 was home and asked for a computer sleeve when she saw mine.  Oh great idea, I wanted a new one.  The only thing I have to show for a whole week of quilting is this one little bitty computer sleeve.  My kindle and my phone fit in the front pocket along with my train pass.  Those are leftover scraps from the Shining Star Log Cabin quilt that is waiting to be quilted. I have another one ready to quilt.  This one was quilted on my DSM, I think I'll wait for the long arm to be free for the next one.  I still have Marie's square pants quilt on the frame. I have been doing quite a bit of quilting on it, 26 magna glide bobbins so far and I'm probably about 75% done with the quilt.   Now, that's a lot of feathers on one quilt.  But to be fair, it is a pretty large quilt too!

Don't forget to check out the linky parties on the side bar, lots of inspiration to start of the quilting new year.

Design Wall Monday - first of 2015

I started my first BOM.  This is Old Friends from Calico Gals.  It's a big one finishing at 108x108, the blocks are 18.5 inches.  I've got the first 3 months done and ready to go.  hmm I"m not liking that dark purple on the double pin wheel block. I just may take that out of the palette for this one.  I'm using charcoal for the background. I think it's a little softer and warmer than black. I think I might start on the 9 patches while I'm finishing up Marie's square pants quilt.  Almost 1/2 done with that.

I've been noticing that when I leave comments on some blogs that the yahoo email gets rejected. I've got my google account set up with my yahoo email (right, who does that besides me? no one).  Anyone know why?  Not sure if it's google rejected or receivers host server.

Hope everyone has a great week.  We got  a little bit of snow last night, and expecting 10 inches by Tuesday morning.  Yep, it's January!!
First real snow of the season, just a couple of inches, view from the front porch.

Frame Friday and a couple of top finishes

Hello 2015!!  What a great quilting start I've gotten on this year.  That humongous log cabin king size quilt - not only are the blocks done but they are all sewn together!!  This thing is plenty big enough to handle the shrinkage from quilting and the first washing, I LOVE it.  It's subtle and colorful and everything I like.  I'm going to go some fancy stitching on the star to bring that out a big more.  Can't wait to get this big ol' thing on the frame.  Oh boy will you at the mess in that room.  I was so busy getting those blocks together that I didn't tidy up a bit.  Plenty of time left in 2015 for that tidy up stuff :)

I also have a tumbler in Kaffe Fassett prints.  Just an extra throw for the bed for little naps or extra chilly nights.  Nothing subtle about this one at all!

But I have to wait to get those on the frame because I have Marie's square pants quilt on the frame.  I love her fabrics.  You can't tell from the pictures but one of the prints has gold in it, so it sparkles when I'm quilting, so fun!!  Oh boy can you see that one spot where I forgot the pebbles in the feather vein?  I always forget something when I do custom quilting.  This is why it's a good idea to take pictures *while* you are working on something.  Easy fix when you catch it while it's still on the frame.

Do you wee where I skipped the pebbles, you know what I'll be doing first on this one.

I love pictures from under the frame
Hope everyone has had a great start for 2015!  Check out the linky parties on the left side bar, there's a few for Fridays'

Happy New Year, Welcome 2015!

Another year gone.  My 2014 quilts tab is just overflowing, good thing a new year and a new tab (completely empty right now) has been started.   Here's just a few of my favorites from the year - Take a look at the 2014 tab if you want to see the full list.  Links on the right will take you to the final blog post for each of the quilts that was finished in 2014.
Goals for 2015 - just keep quilting, I have a few unfinished quilts that I would really like to get off the list, but the list is small so if they stay there, that's ok too!  I just want to have as much fun quilting in 2015 as I did in 2014.  I hope everyone has a safe year filled with lots of quilting pleasure.  Happy 2015!!
